Raising a teen driver comes with plenty of expenses—but if your student is excelling in school, their hard work could be rewarded beyond the classroom. Through the Good Student Discount from Farmers Insurance, eligible students may qualify for lower auto insurance premiums—just for maintaining strong academic performance.

At TRIA, we want to help you take advantage of every opportunity to save. Here’s what you need to know:

Who Qualifies for the Good Student Discount?

To be eligible with Farmers in Oregon, the student must meet the following criteria:

1. Age and Licensing:

  • Must be under 25 years old (or have less than 9 years of driving experience in California).

  • Must hold a valid, verifiable driver’s license.

2. Student Status:

  • Must be a single, full-time student at an accredited high school, college, university, or academic home study program.

  • Full-time status = at least 9 credit hours or 3 units.

  • Graduates from a 4-year university can continue receiving the discount until age 25.

  • Vocational or technical school students may also qualify if the school is accredited.

3. Academic Performance:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B average) on a 4.0 scale.

  • Or be listed on the Dean’s List, Honor Roll, or a similar academic honors program.

  • Home-schooled students can qualify by ranking in the top 20% of their class or on a nationally recognized test within the past 12 months.

Why It Matters

The Good Student Discount isn’t just a small perk—it can meaningfully lower your premium. Depending on your coverage, that could translate to hundreds of dollars saved annually. It’s one more reason to celebrate your student’s hard work.

TRIA Tip: Be proactive. Each semester, send us your student’s updated transcripts or academic documentation to make sure you’re getting every discount you deserve.
